Sikki weaving is an ancient art which has its roots in Bihar. The products are made out of a seasonal Golden Grass (Sikki Grass) which grows wild in the marshy lands of Bihar?s Madhubani district. Sikki is considered auspicious by the natives and products made out of this have a special significance. These products have been made in the Mithila region of Bihar by the enormously skilled craftswomen of UMSAS?s (Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan) Self Help Groups, for whom Sikki weaving is an avenue for livelihood and a way to showcase their unique creativity. The Sikki products are incredibly lightweight, durable and eco-friendly.
